
News Topical, Digital Desk : Nipah virus has once again struck Kerala. An 18-year-old girl died on July 1 in Malappuram district, whose test report has confirmed her to be positive for Nipah virus.
A new case of Nipah virus
An alert has been issued in three districts of the state after a new case of Nipah virus was reported on Friday. The test report of a 38-year-old woman from Thachanattukara in Palakkad district has come out to be Nipah positive. After this, the district administration has urged people and health workers to be cautious.
The infected patient is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Malappuram district. Meanwhile, samples of the suspected case have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for confirmation.
Alert issued regarding Nipah
Officials said a Nipah alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad districts. Health Minister Veena George said, "We have already strengthened preventive measures in line with the Nipah protocol. In Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad districts, 26 special teams have been deployed in each area."
Instructions to district collectors to prepare containment zones
These teams will work towards contact tracing, monitoring symptoms and making the public aware of the disease. District collectors have been asked to prepare containment zones and public announcements are being made to raise awareness.
