News Topical, Digital Desk : The Kerala High Court has given a big decision against people visiting brothels. The High Court says that by paying money for such acts, these people promote prostitution, so now a case can be registered against people visiting brothels under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, 1956 (ITP Act).
Justice VG Arun of the Kerala High Court said that sex workers cannot be used as objects. People who engage in sexual activities with them are not just 'customers' but are also partners in their exploitation.
What did the High Court say?
According to the Kerala High Court, "The person who takes services in brothels is not just a customer. The money given by them forces sex workers to work against their own will. This also promotes crimes like human trafficking."
What is the whole matter?
This decision of the Kerala High Court has come in the context of a case of 2021. In fact, in 2021, the police raided Perokada in Thiruvananthapuram, where they caught 2 people, including the petitioner, running a brothel. A case was registered against them under sections 3 and 4 of the ITP Act.
The petitioner had appealed against this in the Kerala High Court. However, he did not get any relief from the High Court. The court has given the green signal to register a case under the ITP Act against those visiting the brothel.
