News Topical, Digital Desk : Information about a major incident has come from Rome, Italy. An explosion took place at a gas station here. At least 20 people, including eight police officers and a firefighter, were injured in this incident.

According to preliminary information, the sound of an explosion was heard in the Italian capital shortly after 8 am. People in the vicinity were shocked after this incident. A large cloud of black smoke and fire was seen from the nearby areas. Regarding this incident, Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said that about 20 people suffered minor injuries.

 

Firefighters arrived at the scene

Gualtieri said local police and firefighters rushed to the area after being alerted to a gas leak. He said two explosions occurred even after firefighters and police arrived.

 

Eight officers were also injured in the blast

Roman police spokeswoman Elisabetta Accardo said eight police officers were injured as they arrived to conduct rescue operations. It is being said that a series of explosions took place after the first blast. All the injured policemen have suffered burns, but their lives are not in danger.

On this incident, fire department spokesman Luca Cari said, "A firefighter was also injured in the explosion, but not seriously." He said that ten teams were working at the scene. Police said that they are searching the entire surrounding area to see who else is injured or trapped in nearby buildings.
