
News Topical, Digital Desk : Israel has recovered the bodies of two Israeli-American hostages from the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis. They were taken hostage by Hamas during the October 7, 2023 attack.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the remains of Judith Weinstein and Gad Haggai were recovered in a special operation by the army and the Shin Bet internal security agency and sent to Israel. "On behalf of all Israeli citizens, I offer my condolences to those families."
Kibbutz Nir Oz announced the deaths of Weinstein, 70, and Haggai, 72, in December 2023. Both held Israeli and US citizenship. Weinstein was also a Canadian citizen.
13 people including three local journalists killed in Israeli attacks
Meanwhile, according to health officials, 13 people, including three local journalists, were killed in Israeli attacks overnight and on Thursday. It is not clear whether these attacks were related to the recovery mission of the bodies of the hostages.
According to Gaza's Health Ministry, three local journalists were killed and six others wounded in an attack on the Al-Ahli hospital courtyard in the city. The Israeli military said it was investigating the reports at Al-Ahli.
It targets only terrorists and blames Hamas for civilian deaths because it operates from populated areas. According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, 180 media workers have been killed since the start of the Israel-Hamas war. Most of the deaths have occurred in Gaza.
