The army estimates that Hamas fighters are hiding in these areas with their weapons and that they have kept Israeli citizens hostage, out of which 20 are likely to be alive.

20 thousand reserve soldiers are still present in Gaza
At present, the Israeli army is operating in Gaza with 20 thousand reserve soldiers. But despite operating for more than 22 months, the army has not been able to capture Gaza.
The army has not yet been able to reach 25 percent of the densely populated Gaza area. The Israeli Air Force has carried out continuous air strikes in these areas but they have not been able to eliminate Hamas.
Plan to intensify action in Gaza
Human rights organizations have expressed apprehension that the situation in Gaza may worsen further if the plan to intensify the action is implemented. Gaza is currently facing severe shortage of food, water, medicines and fuel.
