News Topical, Digital Desk : All is not well in the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus in Bangladesh. A new case of this has come to light. Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin has been removed from his post due to differences with Yunus, the chief advisor of the interim government.
Appointed Foreign Secretary last September
He was appointed Foreign Secretary last September. There has been no statement from the government on his dismissal, but this move is being seen as internal dissatisfaction.
Jashim was not present in many important meetings
According to local media, Jashim has not been present at any inter-ministerial meetings in the last 12 days. Sources have confirmed that differences over a number of issues, including foreign policy and the Rohingya crisis, led to Jashim's departure.
He had opposed proposals put forward by Yunus and National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman to create a humanitarian corridor and a safe zone for Rohingya refugees.
Demand for holding elections in Bangladesh
Meanwhile, 41 Australian parliamentarians have written a letter to Yunus urging him to announce a clear roadmap for holding immediate elections in Bangladesh. No timeline has been set yet for holding elections in the country after the formation of the interim government in August last year.
