He suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, according to The New York Times, citing Israeli and Iranian officials. Meanwhile, according to the AFP news agency, the president's son said that Mojtaba Khamenei is safe and well despite his injuries.
Earlier, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) announced a series of new attacks as part of Operation True Promise 4, a counter-offensive against sensitive and strategic US and Israeli attacks. It launched a series of intense attacks on Israel late Tuesday night.
The strike lasted for more than three hours.
According to the IRGC, the latest attack lasted more than three hours, involving a continuous multi-layer missile fire, including the heaviest missiles ever launched. Hezbollah has also carried out attacks on Israel. Iran launched Operation True Promise 4 after the US and Israel launched attacks against the Islamic regime.
UAE container ship attacked
A container ship was struck by an unknown object off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, a British maritime security agency said on Wednesday, as Iran launches retaliatory measures in the Gulf in response to US-Israeli strikes.
The incident occurred 25 nautical miles (29 miles) northwest of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, the agency said, adding that ships were advised to approach the area with caution while authorities investigate the incident.
What did Israel say?
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces reported that nearly half of the 300 ballistic missiles Iran fired at Israel carried cluster bomb warheads. The IDF also said that most of the missiles were intercepted on Tuesday, but one missile with a warhead exploded in an open area outside Beit Shemesh, near Jerusalem.
12 killed in Iranian attacks
Since the US and Israel began bombing Iran, Tehran has retaliated by launching hundreds of missiles and drones across the region, including into Israel. Iran's attacks in Israel have killed 12 people and injured more than 2,000.
Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces said they had carried out an airstrike targeting assets and storage facilities belonging to the Hezbollah-linked al-Quard al-Hassan Association in Lebanon. The IDF also announced the killing of Hassan Salameh, commander of Hezbollah's Nasr Unit Salameh.
