News Topical, Digital Desk : Some students of a prestigious government college in Indore allegedly created a fake letter about the "death" of their principal and shared it on social media to stall their examinations, a police officer said on Thursday.

He said that a case has been registered against two students of the college for allegedly making a fake letter and sharing it on social media a few days ago.

FIR registered against two students

Bhanwarkuan police station in-charge Rajkumar Yadav said that on the complaint of Dr. Anamika Jain, Principal of Government Holkar Science College, a case was registered against two third semester students of Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) on Wednesday night.

He said an FIR has been registered under Section 336(4) (intentionally framing a false document with intent to defame a person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which attracts imprisonment of up to three years and a fine.

Rumors of the principal's death were spread to stop the exams.

According to the police officer, as part of an alleged conspiracy to stop online examinations for regular assessment of students and postpone classes, the two accused prepared a false letter claiming the "death" of the college principal and shared it on social media on October 14.

The letter went viral on social media

A college official said the letter, titled 'Important Information', was copied from the institute's letterhead and stated that due to the "sudden demise" of Principal Jain, the online examinations scheduled for October 15-16 have been postponed and classes for all subjects have also been suspended.

When contacted, Jain told PTI, "My family and I are deeply saddened after this fake letter was circulated on social media. Many people even came to my house to express their condolences, believing the letter to be genuine."

The principal demanded strict action against the accused.

He said the police should take strict legal action against both accused to prevent such incidents in the future. Without naming anyone, the principal alleged that some disgruntled elements in the college were harassing him through various malicious activities to prevent him from discharging his official duties.
