News Topical, Digital Desk : India has issued a strong message, exposing Pakistan's duplicity. India has demanded that Pakistan end serious human rights violations. The Pakistani military is suppressing a popular uprising in areas of Kashmir it has illegally occupied.
"In the last few weeks alone, the occupying Pakistani forces and their allies have killed scores of innocent civilians who are protesting for their basic rights and freedom in the parts of Kashmir they occupy," Bhavika Mangalandan, First Secretary at India's UN Mission, said on Friday.
Pakistan must stop human rights violations
"We call on Pakistan to stop the grave and persistent human rights violations in the areas it has illegally occupied, where people are openly rebelling against Pakistan's military occupation, repression, brutality and illegal use of resources," he said in the General Assembly, condemning Islamabad's misdeeds.
"Telling lies doesn't change the truth."
Mangalanandan said, "Repeated accusations and lies do not change the reality or the truth." In fact, Pakistani diplomats continue to accuse India at every opportunity at the UN, regardless of the context of the discussion. He added, "Pakistan's doublespeak and hypocrisy are not worthy of the time and attention of this august forum."
Mangalnandan said that the participation of the people of Kashmir in the elections is a vindication of India's democracy. "We reject Pakistan's attempts to defame democracy, including the people of India and Jammu and Kashmir, and their social and economic progress is evident to all," he said.
'India committed to protecting human rights'
She further said, "It is unfortunate that Pakistan has resorted to undermining the principle of self-determination by making false comparisons." Mangalnandan said, "I want to reiterate that Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh are an integral and inalienable part of India."
Reiterating India's commitment to human rights, he said it stems from our freedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi, which emphasized non-violence and equality. He said that the Gandhian legacy is enshrined in the Constitution, and India's domestic framework for the protection of human rights continues to evolve and strengthen. He also said that India has adopted progressive laws and programs to protect fundamental rights.
