Gayatri was seriously injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment in the hospital. The incident caused panic in the area. Based on the victim's complaint, Jamkhed police have registered a case of attempted murder against the accused, who is currently absconding.

According to police, 26-year-old dancer Gayatri Tushar Sawant (originally from Wagholi, Pune district, currently residing in Tapneshwar Gali, Jamkhed, Ahilyanagar district) lives with her friend Manisha Prakash Jawale and earns her living through dancing. Gayatri and the accused, Rahul Ashok Kachre (resident of Khalegaon, Taluka Gevrai, Beed district), had known each other for five years but broke up in 2024. Gayatri had previously filed a complaint against Rahul.

'If you don't talk, I'll kill you'

On Thursday, February 5, 2026, at around 10 p.m., the accused, Rahul Kachre, called the complainant and threatened her, "Talk to me, I love you. If you don't, I'll kill you." The complainant then hung up.

Then, on Friday, February 6, 2026, at around 2 a.m., Gayatri Sawant was in her room with her friend Manisha Jawale. The accused, Rahul, was hiding near the garbage building. The accused, armed with an axe, entered Gayatri's room and, while shouting, "Why don't you talk to me? Why did you block my number?", attacked Gayatri Sawant's fingers, hands, and head with the axe. She was seriously injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, friend Manisha Jawale tried to stop the accused, pleading with him not to hit her. However, the accused abused Gayatri, threatened her, "I will kill you," and fled the scene. Based on Gayatri Tushar Sawant's complaint, a case of attempted murder has been registered against the accused, Rahul Ashok Kachra, at the Jamkhed police station. The accused is currently absconding and police are searching for him.
