News Topical, Digital Desk : Hiding a secret for nearly 40 years had become unbearable for Mohammed Ali, a resident of Kozhikode in Kerala. Ali went to a police station in Vengara in Malappuram district on Friday and confessed to his crime.

In fact, Mohammad Ali told the police a secret of 40 years ago that in 1986, when he was a minor, he had killed a person whose name he did not even know.

40 year old incident narrated to the police

Ali told the police that he was only 14 years old when he committed the murder. Mohammed Ali used to work for a man named Devasya in Kudaranji village of Thiruvambadi police station area of Kozhikode district. Ali said that one day the man tried to harass him.

In self-defense, he kicked the man, causing him to fall into a nearby canal. Ali said that he fled from the scene in fear and returned two days later to find the man's body still lying in the water.

When trouble came upon the family, then there was a feeling of guilt

Mohammad Ali said that he kept quiet for fear of being caught by the police. At that time, the police had registered a case of accidental death. The local people then said that the man was suffering from epilepsy and no one came forward to identify the body. The matter was settled after no clue was found. But for Mohammad Ali, this matter never settled.

Ali told police that the burden of regret over the crime had become too heavy to bear, especially after his family faced troubles. Police said Ali's elder son died and his younger son was seriously injured in an accident. After this, Ali realised that he should admit his mistake. Ali said that he was not able to sleep because of the troubles his family faced.

The police took Ali's confession seriously. Ali took the investigators back to the spot and showed them the place where the body once lay. Now, a team led by Thiruvambadi station incharge K Prajesh is scouring old files and newspaper reports to unravel the identity of the deceased.
