Won 13 seats in the assembly elections for the first time in 2009

Raj Thackeray's party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena won 13 seats in the assembly elections for the first time in 2009. In 2014, the party was reduced to 1 seat. The account was not opened in the 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Did not contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 assembly elections, candidates were fielded on 101 seats but only 1 candidate won.

When MNS was formed, there was a Congress-NCP coalition government in Maharashtra, after that BJP came to power in 2014. According to political experts, Raj Thackeray's party does not have hold on the entire state. Raj Thackeray's influence area is in Mumbai and Nashik. 

Why did Raj Thackeray part ways with Shiv Sena?

Balasaheb Thackeray's nephew Raj Thackeray resigned from Shiv Sena on 27 November 2005. After that, on 9 March 2006, Thackeray founded Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in Mumbai. The main reason for his exit from Shiv Sena was believed to be power struggle within the party. Raj's aggressive Marathi-Hindutva stance was against Uddhav's balanced approach. He was not happy with cousin Uddhav Thackeray being groomed as his successor. He was also not satisfied with Uddhav's way of leading the party like Bal Thackeray. Apart from this, internal family dynamics also played a role in the separation between the two.

How are the relations between Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray right now?

MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray met at a wedding in 2025. After this, speculations of a political reconciliation between the two started. Both are cousins, but political distance still remains. There is a family bond, but ego and ideological differences are a hindrance in the alliance. However, Raj Thackeray has given such a statement which is likely to increase closeness between the two. He said, "Uddhav and his fights are very small in front of the existence of Maharashtra and Marathas. Maharashtra is very big. It is not a difficult task for them to come and live with Uddhav."
