Oscar-winning actor Robert Duvall was known for his roles in "The Godfather," "Apocalypse Now" and many other powerful roles in his illustrious film career spanning six decades.
Wife confirmed his death
His wife, Luciana Duvall, confirmed his death. " On Sunday, we lost our beloved husband, dear friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time, Robert Duvall," she said. Duvall passed away peacefully at his home in Middleburg, Virginia.
Duvall, who shies away from the limelight, has won an Oscar and been nominated six times. Duvall's memorable role as the Corleone family advisor in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather" earned him the first of his seven Academy Award nominations for the 1972 film.
Duvall reprised the role two years later in The Godfather Part II, but due to a salary dispute, Duvall did not appear in The Godfather Part III.
