
News Topical, Digital Desk : The prohibitory orders imposed in villages of Paonta Sahib area of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh due to apprehension of communal tension have been extended till June 26. On June 13, two groups clashed over the alleged elopement of a Hindu-Muslim couple. An order issued on Thursday night said that due to "communal tension and unstable law and order situation", the prohibitory orders imposed in five villages - Kiratpur, Malio, Fatehpur, Missarwala and Majra under Majra police station of Paonta subdivision from June 13 have been extended till June 26 by District Magistrate Priyanka Verma.
Which things will continue to be banned?
According to the order issued under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNS) 2023, there will be a complete ban on gathering of five or more persons within the limits of these villages, carrying deadly weapons, holding public rally, procession or hunger strike, carrying any kind of inflammable material, pelting stones or throwing any objectionable material in public places and giving inflammatory speeches or communal or anti-state speeches.
The District Magistrate said that he had received a report from District Police Chief Nisheeth Singh Negi that despite the preventive measures taken in the past, the law and order situation remained unstable due to the communal tension including recent incidents of provocative speeches by politicians in public.
Since when is the prohibition order in effect?
After the stone pelting incident on June 13, prohibitory orders were imposed till June 19. To maintain law and order, the police resorted to lathicharge in which more than 10 people, including police and women, were injured. So far four people have been arrested in this case. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against BJP state unit president Rajiv Bindal and BJP MLA from Paonta Sukhram Chaudhary.
