Apart from this, unmarried girls will also observe this fast with the wish of getting a desired groom.

Like Hariyali Teej, the fast of Hartalika Teej is also one of the most difficult fasts. In this fast too, the same rules are followed as in the fast of Hariyali Teej. Women keep this fast without drinking water.

Meaning of Hartalika Teej

The word Hartalika is made up of Harat and Aalika. Harat means kidnapping and Aalika means friend. According to the story of Hartalika Teej, Parvati's friends kidnapped her and hid her in a dense forest.

The reason was that Parvati's father Parvatiraj Himalaya wanted to marry her to Lord Vishnu. But Parvati had accepted Lord Shiva as her husband in her heart. In such a situation, Parvati's friends hid her in the forest, where she made a Shivling and performed a tough penance for Lord Shiva.
