Hanuman ji rested here ( Hanuman Sanjeevani Booti story )
According to the mythological belief ( Shimla Jakhu Temple legend ), when Lakshman ji was unconscious due to Meghnath's Shakti arrow during the war, Hanuman ji was going to the Himalayas to get Sanjivani booti to save him. Then Hanuman ji's eyes fell on Jakhu hill. Yaksha Rishi was doing penance there. Then Hanuman ji came down to Jakhu hill to rest and to get information about Sanjivani booti. The hill caved in due to Hanuman ji's footing. Due to this, Jakhu hill appears flat from the top even today.
When Hanuman started to return, he promised to appear before the sage Yaksha, but due to his battle with the demon Kalanemi, he did not appear before the sage. Hanuman appeared later, when the sage became distraught. Subsequently, a self-manifested idol of Hanuman appeared on Jakhu Hill. The sage Yaksha built a temple for Hanuman.
It is said that the footprints of Bajrangbali are still preserved at the Jakhu Temple. Devotees worship the footprints of Hanumanji and seek his blessings.
