News Topical, Digital Desk : The metro will soon be operational in Surat, Gujarat's textile city. Traveling will become even easier for Surat residents with the metro. The Surat Metro, expected to be completed by next year, will have a total of 40 stations.

The Surat Metro, which began in 2021, will be completed in two phases. The metro will be 42 kilometers long. The first phase was expected to open in March of this year. However, due to various reasons, this deadline was extended. The Surat Metro is expected to open in 2026.

How much work has been completed?

Metro work is progressing rapidly in Surat. A 22.7-kilometer corridor is being built from Sarthana to Dream City. 75 percent of the work has been completed. The metro route also includes a 7-kilometer underground tunnel. The tunnel from Central Warehouse to Kapodara in Surat has been completed. Meanwhile, the tunnel from Chowkbazar to Surat Railway Station is halfway complete.

Started in 2021

The Surat Metro is expected to be completed by June 2026. The entire project will cost ₹12,020 crore. In 2021, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was assigned the responsibility of building the Surat Metro.

There will be red and green lines.

The Surat Metro will have a total of 40 stations, including more than 30 elevated stations and several underground stations. The first 21-kilometer corridor will be known as the Red Line. The second corridor will be called the Green Line.
