New Delhi: GST collection continues to increase. The total GST collection in October this year was Rs 1.87 lakh crore, which is 8.9 percent more than in October last year. The GST collection in October last year was Rs 1.72 lakh crore. In the months of April-October of the current financial year 2024-25, there was an increase of 9.4 percent in GST collection as compared to the same period of the previous financial year 2023-24.
GST collection of Rs 12,74,442 crore has been done in April-October this year. However, the government has set a target of 11 percent increase in GST collection. The increase in GST collection reflects the demand in the economy because GST collection is directly linked to the sale of goods.
Amount of Rs 12,550 crore collected as cess
According to government data, in October this year, Rs 33,821 crore was collected as CGST, Rs 41,864 crore as SGST and Rs 99,111 crore as IGST. An amount of Rs 12,550 crore was collected as cess.
There was no increase in these states
In October, the growth rate of GST collection was in double digits in states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kerala, while the growth rate was in single digits in states like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Telangana. In Himachal Pradesh, there was a two percent decline in GST collection in October, while there was no increase in GST collection in Uttarakhand.
Buyers of big cars increased
Mahindra & Mahindra's SUV sales grew by 25 percent in October compared to the same period last year. SUV sales of other car companies increased. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki's hatchback car sales declined by 20 percent in October this year compared to October last year despite the festive season.
Small car sales down
Only 10,687 units of small cars like Alto and S-Preso were sold in October, whereas 14,568 units of these cars were sold in October last year. Compact cars like Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and Wagon sold 65,948 units, whereas 80,662 units of these cars were sold in October last year.
Increase in total sales
In October, Maruti Suzuki's utility cars like Brezza, Grand Vitara, Ertiga and XL6 sold 70,644 units as against 59,147 units sold last year. Due to less sale of hatchbacks, Maruti Suzuki's domestic sales declined by five percent as compared to October last year. However, due to increase in the company's exports, the total sales increased.
Hyundai, which has the second largest share in the domestic car market after Maruti, also saw a mere one percent increase in total domestic sales due to lesser sales of small cars. Tata Motors also did not register any increase in domestic passenger car sales. Tata Motors sold 206 units less domestically as compared to October last year.
