News Topical, Digital Desk : In the Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, a case of love jihad came up during a public hearing by the Chairperson of the State Women's Commission. The victim was kidnapped from 2009 to 2012 and kept in a village in Maharashtra. Nine years after her abduction, she was forcibly married. The woman had two children after their marriage. Now, her husband, Afsar Hussain, is pressuring her to convert her children and circumcise her son. He also gave her triple talaq in 2018.

After this, the woman has been constantly making rounds of the police and the court. During this time, she was attacked with knives for about 10 to 15 days, and the police took no action after the attack. On Thursday, she attended a public hearing, where the Chairperson of the Women's Commission reprimanded the police officers and sent the woman for immediate medical attention.

Babita Chauhan had reached the public hearing

The Uttar Pradesh government continuously runs various programs to address women's issues. As part of this program, State Women's Commission Chairperson Babita Singh Chauhan arrived in Ghazipur today and was conducting a public hearing. During this public hearing, a woman from a Muslim-dominated village in Mohammadabad tehsil spoke.

In 2009, Afsar Hussain, a young man from this Muslim-dominated village, kidnapped her, took her to a village in Maharashtra, and kept her there for about three years. After she somehow managed to return to her village, the villagers pressured her into marrying him. From that marriage, she has two sons: a daughter who is currently 14 years old, and a son who is about 8 years old. Now, her husband wants to convert her sons and daughters as well. He also wants his son circumcised according to the Muslim religion.

Due to this, she fled her home with the help of another person from the village and is living elsewhere. She has complained to the police and administration several times about this. Her case is even ongoing in court, and she has recorded her 164 statement. However, she alleges that after the 164 statement, some of her letters were also made to disappear.

She said her husband, who is Muslim, harasses her by beating her and forcing her to convert. She lives elsewhere, and in 2018, he gave her triple talaq. Now, after the divorce, he wants to accept her again. However, she no longer wants to live with him. He has filed a court case against her. When she no longer wants to live with him, he fatally attacked her with a knife about 10 days ago. The scar is still visible on her head.

Instructions to the police for action

After listening to the entire story of the woman, Women Commission Chairperson Babita Singh Chauhan immediately directed the Additional Superintendent of Police City to take appropriate action after getting the woman medically examined so that justice can be done to the woman.
