The explosion was so devastating that it not only ignited a fire at the factory but also caused the collapse of nearby buildings. At least 15 people were killed and many others injured in this tragic accident.

In the early morning, a massive explosion occurred at a chemical factory in the Malikpur area of ​​Faisalabad district, located 130 km from Lahore in Punjab province. At least 15 people were killed and several others injured, who were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Building collapsed due to explosion

Faisalabad Deputy Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar told reporters that a massive boiler explosion at a chemical factory in the Malikpur area caused nearby buildings, including one to collapse. However, rescue teams later determined the cause of the explosion was a gas leak, a statement issued by Faisalabad Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar's office also confirmed.

Rescue operation underway

The Deputy Commissioner stated that rescue teams have so far recovered 15 bodies from the debris and transported seven injured to the hospital. There are fears that more people may be trapped beneath the rubble. Rescue teams are working to clear the debris. The entire district machinery is engaged in the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, Punjab Police Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar directed that full assistance be provided to Rescue 1122, Fire Brigade and all concerned agencies.

Accident caused by gas leak

According to Dawn, it was initially reported that the accident was caused by a boiler explosion. However, a statement from the Commissioner's office stated that there was no boiler in the factory, and that four factories were operating in the Malikpur area. A gas leak caused a fire in one factory, which then spread to the others.

CM expressed grief

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep grief over the loss of precious lives at the chemical factory, conveyed her condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families and sought a detailed report from the Faisalabad Commissioner about the incident.
