News Topical, Digital Desk : Once known for its potholed roads, Uttar Pradesh now leads the nation in expressway development. The latest addition to this list is Wednesday, April 29th, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Ganga Expressway in Mallawan, Hardoi.

This anchor expressway, linking west to east, is a living symbol of modern technology. The expressway is equipped with a water harvesting system throughout the road, ensuring rainwater is directly infiltrated into the ground and maintaining groundwater levels.

India's longest expressway

It is India's longest continuous controlled-entry expressway, where uncontrolled entry by stray animals or local traffic is completely prevented. The project is a prime example of sustainable engineering.

Coal ash is also used

Coal ash was used extensively in its construction, which helps reduce pollution. Civilizations once flourished along rivers, but now they flourish along expressways. Keeping this in mind, a goal has been set to plant more than 1.8 million trees along the expressway. Swiss technology has been used in this expressway.

Time monitoring with quality

According to HP Shahi, Additional Chief Executive Officer of Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Authority, when the concept of this expressway came into existence, the UP government signed an agreement with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and AstiD Laboratories AG of Zurich, Switzerland, which monitors the quality, flatness and passenger comfort of the road during construction itself.

Lower maintenance costs after construction

To achieve this, the AI uses a sensor-based quality inspection system. This technology inspects the road surface using vehicles equipped with specialized sensors, which helps identify defects during construction and prompt corrective action. This reduces post-construction maintenance costs and ensures world-class road quality.

Excellent rating received

The Ganga Expressway's construction quality was rated "excellent" in the inspection conducted using this technology. This is the first time this technology has been used to assess the quality of an expressway during its construction. However, this technology has also been used on the Gorakhpur-Purvanchal Expressway Link Project, which began after the Ganga Expressway project.
