News Topical, Digital Desk : Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget in Parliament today. The budget will impact everyone, from ordinary citizens to the elite. However, several major regulations have changed today (February 1, 2026) ahead of the budget. Several sectors, including banking and FASTag, have undergone significant changes.

Major changes in the banking sector

  • Many banks including SBI, HDFC, PNB and ICICI changed the charges.
  • There were also changes in IMPS transactions, reward points and KYC updates.
  • State Bank of India (SBI) will charge ₹2, including GST, for IMPS transactions between ₹25,000 and ₹1 lakh. For transactions between ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh, a fee of ₹6, plus GST, will be levied. Furthermore, for IMPS transactions between ₹2 lakh and ₹5 lakh, a fee of ₹10, including GST, will be levied.
  • HDFC Bank has decided to change the criteria for credit card reward points. The new rules will apply to the Infinia credit card starting February 1, 2026, after which it will be limited to five redeemable points per month.
  • Punjab National Bank (PNB) has instructed all its customers that it is mandatory to update their KYC as per RBI guidelines by February 2.

Changes in tax are also possible

After Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presents the budget, major changes are expected in fuel prices and the economic sector, including taxes. Meanwhile, taxes on tobacco, cigarettes, and pan masala have increased, making these items more expensive. These items could face taxes of up to 40-50 percent.

Fastag users will get relief

Starting today, new car buyers will be free from the FASTag KYV (Know Your Vehicle) process. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to discontinue this process. However, users who already have FASTags will no longer need to undergo the KYV process again.

The budget could also impact fuel prices. This could lead to significant changes in the prices of LPG, CNG, PNG, and aviation fuel, which could impact both the pockets of ordinary citizens and airfares.
