News Topical, Digital Desk : Inspired by the popular British television series "Peaky Blinders," four young men in Afghanistan were dressing up as "Latsahabs" (great sahibs) dressed in coats, pants, and hats. A video of this was subsequently shared on social media. Following the video's release, Taliban officials took action and detained the young men.
According to a CBS News report, Taliban officials have accused these four Afghan youths of promoting foreign culture. The four detained youths are named Asghar Hussainai, Jalil Yaqubi, Ashour Akbari, and Daud Rasa. They are all in their 20s.
The four detained young men were known for wearing trench coats and flat caps in Herat Township. They were often seen roaming the streets of Jibrail Township. They were initially detained and later released after being counseled.
Taliban strict about clothes
According to a report in NDTV, Taliban ministry spokesman Saif-ur-Islam Khaiber said that the Taliban views anything Western, modern, or media-inspired as inappropriate or un-Islamic. Under Taliban rule, Afghanistan adheres to strict religious and cultural values, especially when it comes to clothing.
The four were detained for imitating film actors and displaying mannerisms that went against Afghan values. They were released after being warned not to wear such clothing.
Ministry spokesman Saif-ur-Islam Khaiber told CBS News that the four were not formally arrested, but were summoned, counseled and released.
