News Topical, Digital Desk : A petition was filed in a Pakistani court on Friday seeking the release of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan amid escalating tensions with India over fears of drone attacks on the prison where Khan is being held.

Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said in a WhatsApp message that the party's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur has approached the Islamabad High Court for the release of the party founder. Imran Khan, 72, is lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, a military cantonment.

In the application filed by Chief Minister KP Ali Amin, it was said, "Islamabad High Court has been approached for the release of Imran Khan." It has been requested to the court that due to the current war situation with India and the fear of drone attack in Adiala Jail, he should be released immediately on parole/probation. The court has not set any date for hearing the petition.

Relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated following the Pahalgam terror attack. Indian armed forces on Wednesday morning carried out precision missile strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Pakistan as part of 'Operation Sindoor', a strong response to the terror attack in Pahalgam.
