Election Commission's Special Intensive Review
The Election Commission has directed the Chief Electoral Officers of 12 states and union territories to purify the voter list through a Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The Commission has said that before the draft list is released, the list of dead, transferred, absentee, and duplicate voters found at each booth should be shared with the booth-level agents associated with political parties.
Instructions to upload the list on the lines of Bihar
The Election Commission has directed that all states make such voter lists available on the websites of the Chief Electoral Officer and District Electoral Officer, similar to the way Bihar uploaded them. This will help improve voter lists and bring transparency to the voting process.
Extension of time for submission of calculation forms
Earlier, the Election Commission had responded to a demand from Uttar Pradesh to extend the deadline for submitting counting forms during the SIR, indicating it could be extended by a week. The Commission extended the SIR period on Thursday.
Instructions for providing list of new polling stations
The Election Commission has directed the West Bengal Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to create new polling stations for the convenience of voters living in high-rise buildings and societies. He also directed the Election Commission to ensure that no polling station has more than 1,200 voters. The Commission has asked the West Bengal Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide a list of such polling stations by December 31st.
