News Topical, Digital Desk : The Election Commission has termed the claim made by Rahul Gandhi regarding the election held on a Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka as false. The Election Commission said that no appeal was filed in the court regarding the election held in Karnataka. The Commission said that no Congress candidate had legally challenged the election result, even though he had the option to do so. Rahul Gandhi today claimed that he has solid evidence that votes were stolen in a seat in Karnataka during the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Rahul Gandhi's allegations are baseless

The Commission said the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha had not only made "baseless allegations" but also tried to "intimidate" a constitutional institution. Gandhi said the Congress had "solid and 100 per cent" evidence that the Election Commission "allowed fraud" in an assembly seat in Karnataka. "You will not get away with this because we will not leave you alone," he warned the Election Commission.

Did Rahul threaten a constitutional institution?

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's statement, the Election Commission said that as far as the Karnataka elections are concerned, it is "extremely unfortunate" that instead of filing an election petition as per Section 80 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, or awaiting the decision of the High Court, if filed, he has chosen not only to make "baseless allegations" but also to "threaten" a constitutional body, the Election Commission.

What did Rahul allege?

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the EC was not functioning as the Election Commission of India and was "not discharging its duties". Asked about Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav's reported remarks about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list in Bihar and the option of boycotting the Bihar assembly election being open, Gandhi told reporters in the Parliament House complex that his party has "solid and 100 per cent proof" of fraud being allowed in one seat in Karnataka.

The former Congress president said, "We just surveyed one constituency and found all this. I am sure the same drama is going on in one seat after another. I want to send a message to the Election Commission -- if you think you will get away with this, if your officials think they will get away with this, then you are mistaken. You will not be able to get away with this because we are not going to leave you alone."
