News Topical, Digital Desk : After Bihar, the Election Commission has now put forward the idea of conducting a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list of the entire country.

In its June 24 order on SIR of voter lists, the Election Commission said, “The Commission has now decided to undertake special intensive revision throughout the country in keeping with its constitutional mandate to protect the integrity of voter lists. The schedule for SIR in the rest of the country will be issued in due course.”

What is Special Intensive Revision?

The Election Commission says that it is necessary to revise the voter list from time to time to make it transparent. It increases the purity of elections by removing ineligible persons.

The Commission had explained its importance while responding to the protest against SIR the previous day. The Commission had said, "The Constitution of India is the mother of Indian democracy.... So, should the Election Commission, fearing these things, come under the influence of some people, go against the Constitution and make way for casting fake votes in the name of dead voters, permanently migrated voters, voters who have registered their votes at two places, fake voters or foreign voters, first in Bihar and then in the entire country?"
