News Topical, Digital Desk : Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed entrepreneurs and stakeholders on Friday, January 16, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Startup India campaign. He spoke about the transformations that have occurred in India's startup ecosystem over the past decade.
Prime Minister Modi said, " I have been emphasizing on risk-taking, because it is an old habit of mine too." The PM described this campaign as a revolution inspired by self-confidence, new ideas and changing social mindset towards risk-taking.
The PM said, 'Someone has to take the risk'
PM Modi spoke about these 10 years of Startup India. The PM said, “ The work that no one is willing to do, the work that previous governments avoided for decades because they feared losing elections and losing their positions, I consider it my responsibility to do it.”
The PM continued, "Like you, I too believe that whatever work is essential for the country, someone must do it. Someone must take the risk. Any loss will be my loss, and any benefit will be my countrymen."
A huge increase in the number of startups
The Prime Minister further explained that while the potential for innovation in India was very limited a decade ago, Startup India has now emerged as a nationwide movement. He said that the number of startups has grown from around 500 ten years ago to over 200,000 today.
Startup India was launched on January 16, 2016 by Prime Minister Modi as a national program to nurture innovation, promote entrepreneurship and enable investment-led growth, with the aim of making India a nation of job creators rather than job seekers.
