Many stars, including Karan Johar, Kareena Kapoor, and Kiara Advani, expressed their grief on social media, while prominent figures from the industry, including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Salim Khan, and Salman Khan, have arrived for his funeral. His last rites will be performed at the Vile Parle crematorium in Mumbai.
Karan Johar's heartfelt tribute
Karan Johar wrote on Instagram, “It's the end of an era, a huge megastar... a hero in mainstream cinema, incredibly handsome, and with the most enigmatic screen presence... He is and always will be a true legend of Indian cinema. A unique and iconic mark in the annals of cinematic history. But most of all, he was the best human being. Everyone in our industry loved him dearly... He had so much love and positivity for everyone... His blessings, his hugs, and his unwavering love will be missed beyond words... Today, there is a huge void in our industry... a void that no one can ever fill... There will always be only DHARAMJ... We love you sir... We will miss you so much... The heavens are blessed today... Kareena shared Dharmendra's picture with Raj Kapoor
Kareena Kapoor posted a beautiful picture of Dharamji with Raj Kapoor and wrote, "Always great." Rakul Preet Singh wrote, “Your presence brings joy to the screen. Your memories will always remain in our hearts. Your journey inspires millions. May your soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.”
Vaani Kapoor wrote, "Dharmendra (1935-2025), the original handsome hunk of Hindi cinema, passes away at 89. Timeless, iconic." Kiara Advani and Ananya Panday also paid tribute on social media by posting pictures of him.
Akshay Kumar wrote, "Growing up, every boy aspired to be a hero like Dharam ji. You were the original He-Man of the industry. Thank you for inspiring generations." Manoj Bajpayee, Kriti Sanon, Farah Khan, Kapil Sharma, and Ileana D'Cruz also expressed their condolences on the actor's death.
PM Modi also expressed grief
PM Modi condoled Dharmendra's death, writing, "Dharmendra ji's passing marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a formidable actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The way he portrayed diverse roles touched the hearts of countless people. Dharmendra ji was equally known for his simplicity, humility, and love. In this hour of grief, my prayers are with his family, friends, and countless fans. Om Shanti."
Dharmendra, who would have turned 90 on December 8, was hospitalized for several days due to breathing problems and was discharged from Breach Candy Hospital on November 12. According to media reports, the actor had been on ventilator support since November 10.
