News Topical, Digital Desk : In the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Surya Kant has completely dismissed a petition seeking the formation of a committee for judicial reforms, the disposal of all cases within 12 months, and the investigation of certain types of cases.
The CJI clearly described it as a publicity-seeking petition and said the court should not be approached in such cases. He sternly told the petitioner, “We will not allow anyone to come here in the name of 'judicial reform.' If it is about reform, put it in writing first... whatever it is, send it in writing. Then I will see if it is possible. We are all here, we will do it ourselves.”
'Send a letter, what is the need for a petition?'
Addressing the petitioner directly, the Chief Justice said that if the country wants change, there's no need to file such petitions. Just write a letter and send it to me. He insisted, "Want to bring about change in the country? There's no need to file such a petition... Just write a letter and send it."
He also expressed displeasure over the fact that people file such petitions just to speak in front of cameras. CJI Surya Kant said, "Don't file such petitions just to speak in front of cameramen."
The court clearly stated in its order that several unrelated issues had been incorrectly combined in the petition. If the petitioners wish, they may send suggestions for improvements on administrative aspects directly to the Chief Justice by letter. The court said, "Any such suggestions are always welcome."
A sharp reply to the demand to settle every case in one year
The petitioner had demanded that every court deliver its verdict on every case within a year. Chief Justice Surya Kant sarcastically asked, "Are you saying every court should deliver its verdict within a year? How many such courts do you need?"
