News Topical, Digital Desk : Today, mobile phones have become a vital part of our daily lives. From morning alarm clocks until nightfall, the screen is in our hands. Consequently, a question arises repeatedly: can mobile phones really cause cancer.

How dangerous is mobile radiation?

Mobile phones emit radio frequency (RF) signals. This is the same type of non-ionizing radiation that is present in Wi-Fi or FM radios around us. This type of radiation does not have the potential to damage DNA, meaning it does not fall into the categories known to be associated with cancer risk.

In contrast, ionizing radiation such as X-rays, CT scans, or UV rays can cause changes in DNA, and there is scientific evidence for this.

Research so far has found no concrete evidence that mobile phones are directly linked to cancer. Studies are ongoing, but the conclusion so far is that radiation from mobile phones does not cause cancer.

Then what is the harm?

Although a direct link to cancer has not been found, excessive use of mobile phones definitely increases many other problems.

  • Headache from constantly looking at the screen
  • Disrupted sleep, as the blue light from screens affects sleep hormones
  • Distractions, stress, and mental fatigue
  • Decreased physical activity

Even though the risk of cancer from mobile phones has not been proven, long-term uncontrolled use affects physical and mental health.

What to do?

  • Some simple measures can be very effective in controlling mobile usage:
  • Use earphones while on a call so that the phone is kept away from the body.
  • Keep your mobile phone away from your bed while sleeping. It's best to charge it outside the room.
  • Limiting screen time can improve both your mental peace and focus.
  • Have some no-phone time during the day – like during meals, while studying, or an hour before bed.

Awareness is important, not fear

The claim that mobile phones cause cancer has not yet been scientifically proven, but it is also true that excessive phone use has a profound impact on physical and mental health. Therefore, the solution lies not in fear, but in balance and awareness.
