What is a fungal ear infection?

Fungal ear infections mostly affect your outer ear (ear canal). This happens when fungi such as Aspergillus and Candida grow and spread in the ear. These fungi grow quickly in warm temperatures, so fungal ear infections occur more often in the summer. This infection usually does not go away without treatment.

Fungal ear infection usually affects the ear canal (which starts from the outer ear and goes up to the eardrum). However, sometimes it also affects the middle ear. But this happens very rarely. Fungal ear infection is more common in hot and humid weather (monsoon). It is also called otomycosis and fungal otitis externa.
