New Delhi. The Supreme Court will hear on Thursday the bail pleas of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In the petition, he has challenged his arrest by the CBI in the Delhi Excise Policy Scam.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan will hear the matter. On August 23, the apex court had allowed the CBI to file a counter affidavit in the case and had given Kejriwal two days to file his reply.

Two petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court

Kejriwal has filed two separate petitions against the denial of bail and his arrest by the CBI in the case. He has challenged the Delhi High Court's August 5 order which upheld his arrest.

The Supreme Court had denied bail

The AAP chief was arrested by the CBI on June 26. On August 14, the apex court had refused to grant interim bail to Kejriwal in the case and sought the probe agency's response on his plea challenging his arrest.

Bail has been granted in money laundering case

On July 12, the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Kejriwal in the money laundering case and referred the matter to a larger bench for further consideration on three questions on the aspect of necessity of his arrest. But, he is still in judicial custody as he is an accused in the CBI case.
