News Topical, Digital Desk : Delhi Pollution: Every year, pollution increases in Delhi-NCR with the onset of winter. This time, the situation has worsened. Since Diwali, pollution in Delhi-NCR has increased so much that it is difficult to see even a few meters in the morning and evening. In many areas of Delhi-NCR, the AQI has exceeded 400, which is considered severe. In this environment, while respiratory problems increase in people, a large number of people also start suffering from problems like burning, stinging, and watering of the eyes.

Experts say that the tiny particles present in Delhi NCR's polluted air are directly affecting the eyes, increasing the risk of infection. So, let us tell you today what necessary measures you should take if your eyes are getting damaged due to Delhi's pollution.

How does pollution affect the eyes?

Small particles like PM 2.5 and PM 10 present in Delhi's air are very dangerous. These particles are so small that they reach the surface of the eyes and deposit on the conjunctiva and cornea. This causes problems like swelling, itching, burning, and watering. Prolonged exposure to such an environment increases the risk of dry eye syndrome, allergic conjunctivitis, and even eye infections. Doctors believe that this effect is more visible in children and the elderly because their eyes are more sensitive.

Follow these steps to keep your eyes healthy:

1. Use sunglasses and goggles during pollution.

Experts recommend taking some important measures to protect your eyes from pollution. Experts advise protecting your eyes from dust and smoke whenever you venture outside during pollution. Use sunglasses or oversized goggles. If you ride a scooter or bike, consider installing a transparent glass shield on your helmet to prevent air from directly entering your eyes, thus protecting them from allergies and irritation.

2. Apply lubricating eye drops.

Polluted air reduces moisture in the eyes, leading to eye irritation and itching. To avoid this, apply lubricating eye drops 2 to 3 times a day.

3. Wash your eyes twice a day with cold water.

If you experience irritation and swelling in your eyes during pollution, you should wash your eyes with cold water twice a day. You can also apply ice packs to your eyes. This reduces swelling and provides relief from irritation. However, be careful not to apply ice packs directly to your eyes.

4. Avoid rubbing your eyes.

Excessive smoke often increases irritation and stinging in the eyes. People tend to rub their eyes, which can damage the cornea. Therefore, if your eyes itch, try not to rub them, but instead wash them with water.

5. When to see a doctor?

If you experience persistent eye irritation, blurred vision, swelling, severe pain, and persistent watering during pollution, you should consult a doctor immediately. This is because not getting timely treatment can lead to the spread of infection and can even affect your vision. Also, avoid using eye drops without consulting a doctor.
