News Topical, Digital Desk : Delhi News: The Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi's South-West District Police has achieved a major success under the campaign being run against organized crime. The team arrested seven accused while busting the betting and illegal liquor business going on in Sagarpur area. These include a well-known liquor smuggler and 6 gamblers.

Two crimes exposed from the same house

DCP Amit Goyal said that on the night of 01/02 July 2025, the police received information that an illegal liquor and gambling den was being operated inside a house in Sagarpur area. Under the supervision of ACP Operation Vijay Kumar and led by Inspector Ramkumar, in-charge of AATS, a team of SI Ved Prakash ASI Praveen, Jaipal, Vinod Kumar, female ASI Sandhya, ASI Dharmendra Kumar and others raided the house of Roop Singh alias Rupa Pradhan. Where 75 quarters of country liquor and 22 bottles of beer were recovered from the first floor, while five people were caught gambling on the ground floor.

The main accused arrested in this case, 62-year-old Roop Singh alias Roopa Pradhan, is a resident of Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan and has been living in Sagarpur for the last 30 years. This accused, who has studied till seventh standard, is notorious in the area. His wife Nirmala and daughter-in-law Ganga have already been expelled from Delhi on charges of selling illegal liquor.

Two cases are already registered against Roop Singh. Along with Roop Singh, Amit Kumar (30), Suresh (60), Vishwas (38), Raju Sharma (45) and Kishan Sharma (45) were caught gambling. A total of Rs 31,210 in betting money, three notepads containing betting records, five blank notepads, a carbon sheet and a ball pen were recovered from them.

A former BSF jawan is also among the accused

The accused Suresh arrested in this case was once a constable in the BSF, but he left the service during the Kargil war. After this, he was court-martialed and now he was found involved in illegal activities. While other accused have already been arrested under the Gambling Act. In this case, the police have registered two separate FIRs and arrested the accused and further investigation is going on.
