News Topical, Digital Desk : After 'The Tashkent Files' and 'The Kashmir Files', this trilogy is now being completed with 'The Bengal Files'. Mithun Chakraborty will also be in an important role in this film, which will be released on September 5. This film is based on the communal riots that took place in Kolkata before the partition. Excerpts from a conversation with Mithun on this film and other issues...

Question: When the film's trailer launch was opposed in Kolkata, the film's director Vivek Agnihotri called it dictatorship. What would you say?

Answer: He is right, because all this was done in a planned manner. He had not even seen the trailer, then how could he protest? This simply meant that his bullying would continue, but for how long can you stop the truth. What could he do? The trailer was launched. It got millions of views on YouTube.

Question: By continuously doing films based on issues, actors also get tagged as supporting a particular ideology. Are you ready to accept such tags?

Answer: I am only in favour of bringing the truth to the world. What people call ideology is reality. What was not true in 'The Tashkent Files' and 'The Kashmir Files'? Why not show the truth? I believe that only those are afraid who do not want to face the truth. I have been a part of the trilogy and am always in favour of showing the truth.

Question: Are you not afraid of speaking openly and doing films?

Why should one be afraid of speaking the truth? If one is afraid, then one should not do films. Then I should do the same kind of films, but I am sorry, I am not like that. I am only afraid of overly intelligent and secular people. Such people are fake and hypocrites.

Question: Regarding the assembly elections to be held in Bengal next year, you had said that Hindus there will have to vote unitedly…

Answer: I said this only after realizing the way Hindus are viewed in Bengal.

Question: In the trailer, Bengal has been called the lighthouse of the country. What is Bengal for you?

Answer: She is my mother. She lives in my heart. Even if someone wants to separate her, I will not let them do so. I will give up my life but will not let them do so.

Question: Recently, at the Waves Summit 2025, actor Chiranjeevi said that he was very inspired by the image you created of a common boy without makeup. How important was it for you to become a hero among the people?

Answer: If you don't look like the character you are playing, you will go wrong. Whatever character I play, I understand it well before creating my look. I don't really wear makeup. Chiru (Chiranjeevi) is also a great actor. (Laughs) One actor understands what the other actor says.

Question: Acting and politics are two different professions. How are you managing both?

Answer: I keep both of them separate. Now I am a BJP leader, but this does not mean that I should put things related to BJP in my films or talk like them. I am doing many films, which include 'Fauji' with Prabhas, 'Jailer 2' with Rajini (Rajinikanth) and 'Prajapati 2'.

Question: South Indian cinema is considered commercial. Are you able to maintain a balance between doing meaningful Hindi cinema and commercial films there?

Answer: The cinema there is commercial, but it also has a message. Like 'Fauji' has a patriotic message. 'Jailer 2' is a different kind of film, while 'Prajapati 2' will show the dimension of the relationship between a father and son. Anyway, these days I do only such films that tickle me.
