The government has requested assistance for passengers facing difficulties at the airport.
India has extended humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka, affected by Cyclone Ditwah. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences for the victims of the cyclone and confirmed the dispatch of emergency aid.
The effect will be visible in India
According to the India Meteorological Department, Cyclone Ditwaha is now rapidly moving towards the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh in India after striking Sri Lanka. The IMD has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, southern Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry.
Cyclone Ditwaha is expected to make landfall near the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh by Sunday morning, bringing heavy rain and winds of up to 100 kmph.
