News Topical, Digital Desk : The peak of winter continues in North India. Dense fog, severe cold, and pollution are simultaneously affecting life in Delhi NCR . According to the IMD , visibility is low in the plains due to fog , while snowfall is likely in the hilly areas. North India is affected by the triangular blow of cold, fog, and pollution. The IMD  has issued a yellow / orange  alert . There is little hope of much relief in the next few days.

Delhi - NCR: Double blow of cold and pollution

On December 28, 2025, the minimum temperature in Delhi is expected to be 7-9 °C and the maximum temperature is expected to be 20-22 °C . Moderate to dense fog will prevail in the morning, which may reduce visibility . The Air Quality Index ( AQI) remains in the ' Very Poor' category, ranging between 300-400. According to the CPCB , high PM2.5 levels in many areas have increased the risk of respiratory diseases. Despite the easing of GRAP restrictions, low wind speed is trapping pollutants . The IMD has issued a yellow  alert .

Uttar Pradesh: Cold day conditions and dense fog

Dense to very dense fog is forecast for eastern and western Uttar Pradesh . Minimum temperatures may drop to 5-10 °C , leading to cold day conditions. Fog is affecting traffic in cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, and Agra. Pollution levels are also high, especially in western Uttar Pradesh due to the influence of Delhi.

Punjab and Haryana: Cold wave alert

Dense fog and cold winds are prevailing in both states. Minimum temperatures in Amritsar , Chandigarh , and Hisar are expected to be 4-8 °C . The International Monetary Fund (IMD) has issued a cold wave warning, with concerns about crop damage. Pollution here is also in the 'poor' to 'very poor' category, exacerbated by stubble burning.

Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh: Good news of snowfall

Under the influence of a Western  Disturbance , light to moderate snowfall and rain are expected on December 28. Fresh snow is attracting tourists in areas like Srinagar, Gulmarg , and Shimla , but there is a risk of avalanches in the higher elevations. The cold continues, with minimum temperatures hovering in the sub-zero range .

It's the peak  of winter in North India , where cold, fog, and pollution are compounding the challenges. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMD) , there's little hope for relief in the next few days. Health experts have advised the elderly and children to stay indoors.

IndiGo cancels 57 flights due to bad weather at several airports

Domestic airline IndiGo cancelled 57 flights on Saturday, citing bad weather at various airports, according to the airline 's website . The airline has so far cancelled 13 flights for Sunday, two due to operational reasons and the rest due to forecasted bad weather.

Gurugram -headquartered IndiGo had earlier cancelled thousands of flights in early December due to stringent norms related to pilot working hours and their rest .

The airline has been cancelling some flights for more than a week now, citing bad weather. The 57 flights cancelled on Sunday included those departing from Chandigarh , Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Amritsar , Bengaluru , Delhi, Gaya , Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur and Pune, among other airports.
