News Topical, Digital Desk : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed prizes to the winners of the 2025 MLA Sports Competition in the Gorakhpur City Assembly constituency on Monday (December 29). Taking a dig at MP Ravi Kishan and Cabinet Minister Dr. Sanjay Nishad, Adityanath said that the wrestling is taking place there, while Ravi Kishan is sweating here.
He said that Ravi Kishan and Sanjay Nishad wouldn't have ventured out in this cold. They must have met for dinner somewhere today, and they've come out together. But after coming here and watching your sports competition, their chills have vanished.
What did CM Yogi Adityanath say during the program?
At a program held at Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College, the Chief Minister stated that the government is continuously strengthening sports infrastructure. An international stadium is slated to be built near Belipar in Gorakhpur. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated his commitment to promoting sports and athletes, stating that the government is preparing to establish sports colleges at every divisional headquarters, along with advancing the process of building sports grounds in every gram panchayat, mini stadiums at the block level, and large stadiums at the district level.
The regional stadium in Gorakhpur is also being renovated at a cost of ₹63 crore. A magnificent stadium is also being built at Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College. The sports university named after hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand has begun its operations in Meerut. Construction of this university is underway to build a world-class sports college. The government is now preparing to establish sports colleges at every divisional headquarters.
CM Yogi will hold a meeting with all the institutions of Gorakhpur.
The Chief Minister announced that he will soon hold a meeting with all the organizations in the Gorakhpur Metropolitan Area. At that meeting, the organizations will be urged to adopt a sport. They will provide some support, while the government will contribute some. Good coaches will be hired there. This will provide a better platform for children to play sports.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also shared his upcoming plans for the MLA Sports Competition. He said that next time, sports competitions will be held for children and students, as well as for working and retired people, at the ward level. A larger competition will be held at the ward level, followed by a combination of wards at the suburban level and then at the city level, with a grand ceremony honoring the winners.
He stated that competitions for students will be held at three levels: basic, secondary, and higher education, for both boys and girls. The Chief Minister also stated that a similar cultural program has been organized in Gorakhpur. These competitions, covering various art forms such as singing, playing instruments, dancing, and drama, will be held in the first week of January. The winning participants will be honored at the main Gorakhpur Festival event from January 11th to 13th.
If the youth plays, the country will flourish – Yogi Adityanath
Explaining the importance of sports, CM Yogi said that if youth play, the country will prosper. And the path to achieving the vision of a developed India begins here. The Chief Minister said that the path to success in life is possible only with a healthy body. A healthy body can only be achieved through sports and yoga exercises.
Huge changes in the field of sports in 11 years
The Chief Minister said that in the last 11 years, there has been a significant transformation in sports and sports activities in the country. The entire world looks to India for kabaddi, hockey, badminton, and athletics. A new demand has arisen for competition in the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and World Championships, and keeping this in mind, the government is continuously strengthening sports infrastructure.
The CM praised the enthusiasm of the players in the severe cold.
The Chief Minister praised the athletes' enthusiasm, even in the harsh cold. He noted that 1,000 athletes directly and 10,000 indirectly participated in the MLA Sports Competition. Athletics, kabaddi, volleyball, judo, and wrestling competitions were organized during the MLA Sports Competition 2025.
He said that it is sports which provides entertainment in both good and bad conditions and also plays a big role in making us physically, mentally and intellectually fit.

On this occasion, Dr. Sanjay Nishad, Minister of Fisheries Department of the State Government, said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, like in every other field, all athletes are getting opportunities to advance without discrimination in the field of sports. By eliminating the mafia from Uttar Pradesh, he has created a truly sporting environment instead of the game of guns and pistols. Dr. Sanjay Nishad said that the Yogi government is committed to the advancement of sports and the promotion of athletes.
What did Ravi Kishan say in the program?
Welcoming the Chief Minister at the event, MP Ravi Kishan Shukla said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is providing excellent resources to children, even in rural areas, to advance in sports. CM Yogi is fulfilling PM Modi's dream of "India will play, India will progress."
