News Topical, Digital Desk : China has acknowledged India's laser strike capability. India tested the integrated short and medium range strike capability on Saturday. Chinese military experts have described the strike capability of high power laser based directed energy weapon (DEW) under Integrated Air Defense Weapon System (IADWS) as a remarkable progress of India.
IADWS is a multi-layered air defence system comprising indigenously developed Special Surface to Air Missiles (QRSAM), Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADs) missiles and a high-yield laser based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) system.
7 countries have DEW systems
It is said that only a few countries like the US, Russia, China, the UK, Germany and Israel have DEW-like capabilities. Beijing-based Aerospace Knowledge Magazine's chief editor and military expert Wan Yan'an told the Global Times that India's IADWS air defense system is designed to hit short and medium-range targets. Through this, enemy country's drones, cruise missiles, helicopters and low-flying fighter aircraft can be targeted in a limited range.
He said the secret to the success of this Integrated Air Defence System is an information system that is highly effective and can transmit target-related data to the relevant weapon components.
"There are only a few countries in the world that have deployed combat-ready laser systems," Wang said, pointing to China's LW-30 vehicle-based laser defense weapon system, known as a drone killer. It can strike at the speed of light, reach the target silently, can be used continuously, and is flexible, accurate and affordable.
