News Topical, Digital Desk : In a major crackdown on organized crime, gangster Lakhwinder Kumar, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has been deported from the United States and brought to Delhi. The CBI said he was immediately detained by Haryana police upon his arrival at Delhi airport on Saturday.

According to officials, Lakhwinder has several criminal cases registered against him in Haryana, including extortion, threats of extortion, illegal possession of firearms, and attempted murder. At the request of the Haryana Police, the CBI obtained a Red Corner Notice against him through Interpol. This notice was issued on October 26, 2024, following which, through joint efforts, the accused was extradited to India on October 25, 2025.

How was Lakhwinder brought back ?

The CBI stated that the entire operation was carried out in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs ( MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The CBI worked in collaboration with various agencies in India to bring Lakhwinder back. According to officials, over 130 wanted criminals have been brought to India in this manner over the past few years.

Mainpal Dhillla was also brought back

Last month, the CBI, in collaboration with the Haryana Police, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, brought back notorious criminal Mainpal Dhillla, alias Sonu Kumar, from Cambodia. Dhillla is serving life sentences for murder, attempted murder, illegal weapons possession, and conspiracy. This case stems from FIR No. 276, registered at the Bahadurgarh police station in 2007.
