
News Topical, Digital Desk : University of Virginia President James Ryan resigned on Friday (June 27, 2025) under pressure from President Donald Trump over the school's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies.
Ryan said that he cannot risk putting the university's students and faculty at risk. He wrote that I cannot make a unilateral decision to fight the federal government to save my job. Doing so could put the interests of hundreds of employees and researchers at risk.
US Senator called the Trump administration's demand insulting
Virginia's Democratic U.S. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner called the Trump administration's demand "outrageous" and said Ryan's resignation would harm the university and the state. It was unclear whether Ryan's resignation would be effective immediately.
Three prosecutors involved in riot criminal cases were dismissed
Meanwhile, according to AP, the Justice Department on Friday fired three prosecutors involved in US Capitol riot criminal cases. This is the latest move by the Trump administration targeting lawyers involved in the massive prosecution of the January 6, 2021 attack, according to two people familiar with the matter.
