News Topical, Digital Desk : A horrifying incident has unfolded in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canada. An 18-year-old transgender woman shot and killed nine people, including her mother and 11-year-old stepbrother. She then committed suicide by shooting herself.

According to AFP news agency, police commander Dwayne McDonald was quoted as saying that Rutslar was a transgender woman. She had dropped out of high school four years ago. She previously held an expired firearms license, and weapons had previously been confiscated from her residence but were later returned.

Rutslaar was mentally unstable, and police visited his home more than once to check on his condition. He was evaluated more than once under the provincial Mental Health Act.

"Police have been to that (family's) residence numerous times over the past several years to address the suspect's mental health concerns," McDonald said.

24 people injured

Police said Jessie van Rootsalaer attacked children at the school she attended four years ago after killing her mother and half-brother. Twenty-four other people were also injured in the attack.

Police found six people dead at the school: a 39-year-old female teacher and five students – three 12-year-old girls and two boys, aged 13 and 12.

The police did not know the reason

However, police have not yet released a motive for the worst massacre in Canadian history. They said there is currently no information suggesting anyone was specifically targeted.

Deadliest shootings

The attack was the deadliest violent assault in Canada since 2020, when a gunman killed 13 people in Nova Scotia and nine others died in a spate of arson attacks.
