News Topical, Digital Desk : Raghunathpur village of Brahmapur block of Buxar district of Bihar, where the sacred memories of Goswami Tulsidas, the author of Ramcharitmanas, are still immortal. This is the Tapobhoomi where Tulsidas ji not only spread the Ram Katha but also composed some parts of Manas. Now the demand to develop this historical place as a religious tourist center is gaining momentum.
Shailesh Ojha, convener of local social organization Tulsi Vichar Manch, said, “This place is very important not only from a spiritual point of view but also historically. The old name of Raghunathpur was Bela Patwat. Seeing a small Ram temple located in the southern part of the village , Goswami Tulsidas started living in this forest environment. Not only this, he also started reciting the Ram Katha while meditating under the Bodhi tree here.”
The land is registered in the name of Goswami Tulsidas
Villagers believe that landlord Raghunath Singh donated four acres of land to Tulsidas ji at this site. This claim is not limited to folklore, but the land is also recorded in the name of Goswami Tulsidas in the survey khatian and land revenue receipts of the years 1910 and 1970. Updated receipts till 2025 confirm this.
- Priest Ram Kripa Das is considered the guardian of this land.
- Local people pay land revenue every year.
- According to local villagers, there was 9 bigha land in the name of Tulsidas ji in Rajpur village, 2 km south of Raghunathpur.
- There has been illegal encroachment on these lands in Rajpur village.
Writer Dwarkadhish Prasad also mentioned the land
Dwarkadhish Prasad, author of 'Goswami Tulsi Das Jeevan Darshan', has also mentioned this in his book. According to an excerpt from the book, Tulsidas had 9 bighas of land in Rajpur village of Bhojpur district in his name, which was passed on to his disciple Banwari Das after his death. When the village was destroyed by the attack of the Mughals, this family moved to another village. Later, people illegally occupied this land.
Demand to develop it as a religious tourist destination
A two-day Tulsi Jayanti celebration is also organized at this holy place, in which Ram Katha, musical Sundarkand Paath and discussion are organized.
Local people and members of Tulsi Vichar Manch have submitted a memorandum to the Tourism Department demanding to include this place in the Ramayana Circuit and develop it as a religious tourist destination, establish a Manas Granthalaya and install a grand statue of Tulsidas ji.
The Mahakal temple built by the villagers in the ashram premises has become a new center of religious activities, due to which the possibilities of faith and religious tourism here have become even stronger.
Tulsidas' words still resonate in Raghunathpur
Let us tell you that in chapter 13, page number 669 of Shahabad Gazetteer published by the Bihar government in the year 1966, there is a clear mention of Goswami Tulsidas' stay at Raghunathpur. In a country like India, where literature and devotion flow in the same stream, preserving and developing such places should be the priority of the government. Raghunathpur is not just a village, but the sacred center of the Indian soul, where the words of Tulsidas still resonate.
