News Topical, Digital Desk : The effect of US President Donald Trump's 50 percent tariff is clearly visible on the pottery industry of Khurja in Bulandshahr. The production of handcrafted porcelain utensils in Khurja Pottery Industries has fallen by 50 percent. The situation is such that entrepreneurs running more than one plant are having to consolidate the production of all the plants in one plant.
Handicraft pottery products seem to be the worst hit by Trump's tariff. In fact, Trump has imposed a 50 percent tariff on handicrafts and has broken the economic backbone of entrepreneurs. Guljeet Singh, owner of Minhas Potteries, says that he produces 90 percent of handicraft pottery from his pottery industry for America.
Pottery orders have been cancelled
After the imposition of 50 percent tariff, exporters have cancelled pottery orders or orders have been put on hold. Due to this, the business is facing a lot of problems. In such a situation, they had to reduce the scope of production. We are looking for alternative markets. Pottery is exported to America on a large scale in Khurja. Although pottery entrepreneurs are cautious about the future, we are also exploring the Indian market. The Indian market is a very big market in itself, we are starting to supply goods there as well. We are trying to reduce our dependence on the US.
On the issue of Swadeshi, he said that Swadeshi should make a difference. When the US bombed Japan, the whole of Japan was destroyed. When Japan started, people used to say that Japan's products are not good. And today they say that no product is produced better than Japan. Similarly, we will not support India until people understand that no product is produced better than India. Make in India products are good. Now we are talking to other countries for our products. We hope to get better options soon.
