News Topical, Digital Desk : The Patna High Court's notice to MLAs on a petition alleging they concealed information about their assets and criminal cases in their affidavits was raised vigorously in the Bihar Assembly today. Both the ruling party and the opposition expressed their views on the issue, but everyone agreed that this matter is entirely within the jurisdiction of the court.
Interestingly, both the ruling party and the opposition appeared to be on almost the same page on this issue. Leaders from both sides stated that this matter was entirely within the jurisdiction of the court and that it would be inappropriate to make any political comment. They stated that the MLAs who received the notices should file their responses in court, and whatever decision is reached will be acceptable to all.
LJP Ram Vilas' statement
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MLA Raju Tiwari stated clearly that this is a court matter. He said, "The MLA who received the notice will respond to the court himself. It is not appropriate to comment further on this in the House." He reiterated that whatever decision the court makes will be final.
RJD raised the issue of electoral fraud
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA Ranvijay Sahu said that the matter has reached the court and all MLAs should respond. However, he added that the opposition has already been raising the issue of "vote theft" and election irregularities. According to him, this notice somehow indicates that irregularities may have occurred in the election process.
Those who received the notice should respond to the court – CPI (ML)
Meanwhile, CPI (ML) MLA Ajay Singh said he had no information about who had received the notice. According to him, no one had received it yet. He added that those affected by the SIR issue, which alleged vote theft, had gone to court. However, if a MLA receives a notice, he or she should respond to the court.
He also questioned the distribution of 10,000 rupees. The government argued that the scheme was launched before the Model Code of Conduct came into effect. However, he believes that the government cannot lay the foundation stone or inaugurate any scheme after the election notification is issued. Therefore, the amount distributed later should not have been distributed. According to him, this is completely wrong.
However, he also said that the final decision in this matter rests with the court. He said that he could do nothing about it. He said that all the MLAs who received the notices should respond to the court.
All eyes are now on the court hearing. The MLAs concerned will have to provide clear answers regarding their affidavits. Amid the political rhetoric, the matter has taken a legal turn, and the court's stance in the coming days will determine the next course of action. For now, this issue has certainly sparked political turmoil in the Assembly.
