News Topical, Digital Desk : In view of the increasing complaints of adulteration in milk and dairy products across the country, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has made licensing mandatory for milk production and sale.

Now no person or organization will be able to do milk business without proper registration or license.

Members of dairy cooperative societies will not have to take license i.e. farmers or animal husbandry who are associated with a registered cooperative society and supply milk to them will not be required to take separate license individually.

To this end, FSSAI has issued an advisory to the State Food Commissioners of all states and union territories, warning them of strict action for violating the rules.

FSSAI has reported that some milk producers and milk vendors are operating without registering themselves or obtaining a license. State food commissioners have been asked to strictly enforce registration and licensing requirements.

He has asked the competent authorities of the Centre and the States to direct the Food Safety Officers to check whether all such milk producers and milk sellers have valid registration certificate or license.

Along with this, the authority also directed them to inspect the milk cooling equipment from time to time so that the correct storage temperature can be ensured to prevent spoilage and protect the health of the people.

FSSAI said violations of the rules could lead to action. States have been asked to conduct special registration drives in their respective jurisdictions.

It is noteworthy that in December last year, the state food commissioners were directed to run a campaign to implement the special order for milk and milk products on a regular basis.

In response to rising complaints of adulteration in milk and dairy products across the country, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated licensing for milk production and sale. Now, no individual or entity will be able to trade in milk without proper registration or licensing.

Members of dairy cooperative societies will not have to take license i.e. farmers or animal husbandry who are associated with a registered cooperative society and supply milk to them will not be required to take separate license individually.
