The girl had gone to the river bank to collect wood.
Forcing a minor to consume alcohol
The accused forcibly made the minor drink alcohol and then raped her one by one. Despite the liquor ban in Bihar, such incidents have raised questions on the functioning of the administration. The police have arrested one accused, while three others are absconding.
This shocking incident took place in a village in Varsaliganj on Saturday evening, September 13. The victim, who belongs to a Mahadalit family, had gone to collect wood along the river bank with her friends. The victim's mother said that four girls were with her, but the other girls returned, while her daughter was caught by four youths.
One of these young men was the son-in-law of the village, whom the victim called brother-in-law. The accused first threw the minor down when she asked for water and forcibly made her drink alcohol. After this, all four of them raped her one by one. Later, the victim was found in a serious condition at the same place on the river bank and told her family about her ordeal.
The victim's elder sister had also gone to collect firewood at the same time. She heard the teenager's screams and reached the spot. The elder sister found the victim in a semi-nude state. The victim said that the accused raped her in turns. The victim has lodged a complaint at the Varsaliganj police station. The police have registered a case and started searching for the accused. The case has been registered under the POCSO Act.
SDPO Bhaskar Kumar said on Sunday that the police received information on Saturday night. Based on the victim's application, a case was registered under section 482/25 of the POCSO Act. The DSP confirmed that one of the four accused, Renu Kumar, has been arrested. The remaining three accused are absconding, and the police are conducting raids in search of them. The victim has been medically examined. The police have assured that the absconding accused will be caught soon. Meanwhile, the victim and her family are being provided security and assistance.
There is anger and fear among the people
Let us tell you that liquor ban has been in force in Bihar since 2016, but this incident has once again raised questions on the effectiveness of this policy. The accused being drunk and giving liquor to a minor has made it clear that the availability of illegal liquor is still a serious problem. Local people say that smuggling from border areas is the main reason for this. This heinous crime has created an atmosphere of anger and fear among the people of Nawada and surrounding areas.
After the incident, people are demanding strict action from the administration and immediate justice to the victim. After this incident, a case has been registered against four people. 20-year-old Renu Kumar of the same village has been arrested. 20-year-old Chhote Manjhi, 23-year-old Vinma Manjhi and 23-year-old Jugan Manjhi are the accused, who caught the minor when she was alone and the accused took the girl to the bushes and raped her and tore her clothes.
