News Topical, Digital Desk : At a meeting with the Election Commission in Patna on Saturday, political parties made several suggestions, including holding state assembly elections immediately after Chhath Puja to help ensure greater voter participation. RJD MP Abhay Kushwaha met with the Chief Election Commissioner and presented his views.

What did RJD MP Abhay Kushwaha say?

RJD MP Abhay Kushwaha said, “We have clearly placed all the points before the Election Commission. I have also given them the written suggestions of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. We have demanded that the elections be held in two phases. We have asked them to give us a clear list of the 3,66,000 names that were removed (from the voter list), and I appeal to those whose names have been removed to file a complaint.”

After meeting the Chief Election Commissioner, JDU Bihar President Umesh Singh Kushwaha said, "Our party has suggested that the elections be held in a single phase. To facilitate voters coming from outside to cast their votes during the Chhath festival, the elections should be held immediately after the Chhath festival."

Elections will be held at the end of October, immediately after Chhath!

The term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly ends on November 22nd. The first phase of elections is likely to be held in late October, immediately after Chhath. During Diwali and Chhath, most people working outside Bihar return home to celebrate the festivals, and this is considered the best time to hold elections to ensure high voter turnout.
