Diabetics often experience an imbalance of kapha and vata, and baelpatra (wood apple) helps calm both doshas. It is beneficial not only for diabetes but also for stomach ulcers and other stomach-related disorders .
How Bilva leaves are beneficial in diabetes
Beyond its religious significance, the Bael leaf is also considered scientifically significant. It contains phytochemicals such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins, which naturally lower blood sugar . Furthermore, Bael leaf is beneficial for diabetes in the following ways:
- Insulin Management: It increases insulin sensitivity in the body, thereby improving glucose absorption.
- Protects the pancreas: The powerful antioxidants present in it protect the beta cells of the pancreas from oxidative stress and can help in their regeneration.
- Inflammation and Cholesterol: It reduces internal inflammation in the body and also protects the heart by reducing bad cholesterol and triglycerides.
How to use
- Raw leaves: The easiest way to use them is to thoroughly wash three fresh bael leaves in the morning on an empty stomach, chew them, or grind them, and drink their juice. This method is also helpful in controlling fasting sugar.
- Bilva decoction: Boil 10-15 Bilva leaves in a glass of water until the water is reduced by half. Strain the mixture and drink it instead of your morning tea.
- Bilva leaf powder: If fresh leaves are not available, prepare a powder from shade-dried leaves. Take 1 to 3 grams of this powder with lukewarm water twice daily.
